Q. I am about to complete high school and I do not know what I want to be “when I grow up”. Do you think that a career quiz might help me decide?
A. Yes, yes, a thousand times yes! But perhaps not for the reasons you think. You see, as the great Quizmaster, I have a thing to be true: A career quiz, quiz to find or for that matter, is always on the thoughts and belief bias of the person who wrote it.
Usually, a career quiz for entertainment purposes only written. Well, if you call, there is a career quiz, but you are really some kind of standardized tests for professional careers as professional advisers and military use, these estimates are generally valid in your career skills.
But since you ask here, and I’m definitely not a career counselor, I will assume that you’re talking about your run-of-the-mill career quiz like the type that you in the typical magazines and on a variety of general audience sites.
So, given the reason that I said “Yes, yes, a thousand times yes,” because everything that someone is thinking about career options is a good thing. A well-written career quiz has the effect that you to brainstorm about your career options. What do you want, “when you grow up” may be a moving target for you. Most people develop, change as they mature and their goals. What sounds like a good idea now may be far removed from what you will eventually. However, as I said, a career-quiz brings you think, and that’s a start!
When looking for a career quiz take a good look at the nature of the questions that are asked. Remember what I said before the author’s bias? You will want a career quiz “horizontal” issues and can not find a “vertical”. For example, a horizontal question: “Did you enjoy working against deadlines?”, While I vertical question would be: “Do you want the precision of hand tools versus the speed of power tools?”.
Horizontal career quiz questions are designed general professional likes and dislikes while “vertical tends to explore” questions to try and shoehorn you into a specific professional career. Now you understand me wrong, it is a place for a vertical career quiz. For example, if you are thinking about a career in woodworking, and try to decide whether you want to be a carpenter or a house framer, a vertical career quiz is just what you need.
The important thing to remember is never a career decision solely on the results of some career quiz that you come across is based. If the quiz will take you to think that you might enjoy some particular career, then, that more research option in full. A career quiz is simply another tool to help you navigate the paths of life. Good luck! P>
